Scienceisnotabodyofknowledgetobepassivelymemorized,itisawayinwhich
welookattheworld,awayweinvestigateandseektounderstand,awaywe
sharpenourabilitytoaskquestions,andpushtheboundariesofwhatwedonot
know.Ibelievethisshouldbethefocusoflearninginascienceclassroom.
Asweworktowardtheabove,itisequallyimportantthatstudentsarecomfortable
in,andawareoftheroletheyplayinbuildingtheclassroomcommunitywecreate
overtheyear.Studentsshouldfeelateasewithsharingtheirthoughts,opinions,and
questionswiththeirpeersandwithmyself,andthisshouldbearegularevent!I
believestudentsmustplayanactiveroleintheirlearning,andthatmutualrespect
andopennessisvitaltothefoundationofaworthwhileandsatisfyingclassroom
learningcommunity.
Inorderforstudentstobecomebetterthinkers,morecriticallearners,andaskersof
moreinterestingquestions,Ibelievetheymustengage,notonlywiththecontent,
butalsowitheachotherandtheworldaroundthem.Thisismygoal.
