Safety and Liability Plan

Regarding: Safety and Liability concerns about KFAC use. I frequently receive requests from students to use the King Fine Arts Center stage for assignments from other class. This puts me in a difficult position, as I am not able to supervise these students during school hours, and my general rule of thumb has been to deny students this privilege. I have made exceptions, on occasion, for students that are members of the Stage Operations class who have demonstrated their knowledge of the space and understanding of the value of the equipment and facilities. My concern for the safety of all that use the KFAC facilities continues to be of importance to me in my position as Assistant KFAC Director and Drama Instructor at Burley High School. Stage Operations students are trained on safety procedures regarding the fly-rail system, as well as safe maneuvering of stored furniture and scenery pieces. Drama class students are not trained as extensively, though they are instructed to stay away from, and not touch, anything within in the black and yellow caution tape, as it is an area of possible potential accidents. Students and their adult supervisors have had it impressed upon them that the engagement of any activities within the KFAC that involve a darkening of the stage or audience/house area, (at minimum, work lights should be illuminated at all times), is not acceptable. No activities will be planned, instructed, or executed that involve a completely dark space, period.
