Jamie Jones, Assistant Director Aquatics Department POHL Recreation Center 1900 Chestnut Drive Denton, TX 76201

Dear Ms. Jones, I am writing to apply for a part-time position as a lifeguard with the aquatics department. I worked as a lifeguard for the City of Richardson where I built valuable experience, and I received my lifeguard and CPR certifications through the Red Cross. After receiving my certifications, I learned the ropes of being a lifeguard with the City of Richardson. I was positioned at one pool but I was often moved around the different pools belonging to the city to fill vacancies, so I learned how to work and get along with many different kinds of people and managers. I was taught how to continuously scan the length of the pool without zoning out and how to spot weak swimmers who might need help. I learned how to clean the pool and its facilities, which I had to do many times a day, and how to check the chemical levels of a pool and properly adjust them. I was also taught how to enforce the pool rules in a respectful yet affect full fashion. Every Sunday the staff would meet an hour before opening during which time we would train water rescue; however, my most valuable training came when I performed a save on a child who could not swim in the deep end of the pool. I also received front desk experience with the city. I had cash register shifts everyday during which I learned how to politely address the patrons needs in person and over the telephone. I believe that I would be a great asset to the aquatics department lifeguard team. I am a current student at the University of North Texas, so I would not be able to work full-time, but I take work seriously because that is how I pay for school. I would look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Roman Gruszecki
