    The Israelites multiplied greatly during their time in Egypt. A new Pharaoh came to power who did not know Joseph or the Israelites' history. He was afraid of how numerous the Israelites had become and forced them into slavery, making them build the cities of Pithom and Rameses. When this did not stop their population growth, Pharaoh commanded the Hebrew midwives to kill all baby boys at birth. The midwives disobeyed and told Pharaoh that the Hebrew women gave birth too quickly for them to intervene. God blessed the midwives for their actions. Pharaoh then commanded all his people to throw every newborn Hebrew boy into the Nile river.

    Exodus 1:1-22

    Read Genesis 15:13-16. This passage is important to understand as we introduce Exodus. How many years would Abrahams family would be in a foreign land and serve as slaves? What would happen to the nation that enslaved them? God said they would come out with _________ possessions Whose iniquity had to be full or complete before God would deliver Abrahams family? In the 4th generation they would come out of bondage. Note the 4 generations from Levi to Moses in Exodus 6:16-20.

    1:7 But the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly. Read Numbers 1:46 to get an idea of how much the children of Israel actually multiplied while in Egypt. 1:8 Now there arose a new _________ over Egypt, who did not know _________ Of what was the Pharaoh afraid, and what was the first way he decided to oppress the Israelites? What two cities did the Israelites help build? (1:9-11)
