    Moses was tending the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, near Horeb when he saw a burning bush that was not consumed. God called out to Moses from the bush and told him to remove his sandals as he was standing on holy ground. God revealed that he had seen the suffering of the Israelites in Egypt and was sending Moses to demand that Pharaoh release them. Moses questioned how the Israelites would believe that God had appeared to him, to which God promised signs and told Moses that "I AM WHO I AM" had sent him.
