CHEMICAL PROFILING OF KEKABU SEED OIL

ABSTRACT Kekabu seed oils (ceiba pentadra ) was solvent extracted with n-hexene and analyzed by using gas chromatography for its chemical constituents. The major fatty acid component is palmitic acid (C16:0) which presented as 64.4%. Other components present is 2-chloro ethyl linoleate which presented as 5.26%.

INTRODUCTION

LITERATURE REVIEW

METHODOLOGY Kekabu seed was dried under the sunlig for two days. The seeds then was ground using mortar and pestle to get a fine powder. 450g of the powder seeds powder was put to the 1000 ml conical flask . A 600 ml of nhexane was added into the conical flask. The sample was stored in the dark place for 48 hours (2 days). The sample was filtrate using Watman Filter paper The filtrate was collected and inserted into the rotatary evaporator to distilled out the solvent used. Then 0.1g sodium sulfate anhydrous was added to the oil to remove any water left. About 1l was taken to analyze fo Gas Chromatography (GC)
