Teacher Preparation Collaborative Intern Teacher

Winona State University (WSU) and the Rochester Public Schools are joint participants in a Teacher Preparation Collaborative at the secondary level. The program is currently designed to provide individuals who hold the minimum bachelors degree in an appropriate content area with an opportunity to complete the requirements for a secondary teaching license in one of the following categories: business education, chemistry, communication arts and literature, earth and space science, life science, mathematics, physics, or social studies. This program requires intensive coursework and field experience during the summer at WSU Rochester. This is followed by a yearlong internship in a middle or high school. During the 2013 14 school year there is Tim Marshall Intern Teacher at John Marshall High School who is enrolled in this program. This individual will complete student teaching requirements during the first semester and will hold a Limited Intern License during the second semester. The intern teaches all year under the supervision of an Intern Coach who is a high/middle school teacher that has been selected by WSU and the Rochester Public Schools. John Marshall High School students will benefit from having this Intern Teacher in their classroom along with the experienced regular teacher. The experience provides more support for the student learning when a co-teaching model exist. In addition, the Interns Coach will be working on short term Curriculum and Instruction projects for a time period during the second semester. This will strengthen curricular programs, which also ultimately benefits students. It is a win win collaboration for students, teachers, and those enrolled in the teacher preparation program. Sincerely,

Andrew Johnsrud John Marshall High School
