Anne Sweeney stepping down after 18 years at the Walt Disney Co. LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL. (April 21, 2014)- Anne Sweeney, co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television group, will step down from her position at the end of her contract in January2015. She will move on to pursue a career as a TV director. Sweeney joined the Walt Disney Co. in February 1996 as president of Disney Channel and executive vice president of Disney/ ABC Cable Networks. Previously, she held executive positions at Fox Networks and Nickelodeon. Sweeney praised the Walt Disney Co. for an amazing career experience. The past 18 years at Disney have been the highlight of my executive career. Ive been a part of an amazing evolut ion in our business and our industry, and have achieved far more than I ever thought possible , she said. I know my decision to step back from all of this to learn the art of Directing may seem surprising, but to me its a long realized dream. During her time at Disney, Sweeney oversees The Walt Disney Co.s global entertainment and news television properties. This includes ABC Studios, the ABC Owned Television Stations Group, the ABC Television Network, and ABC Family. She supervised Disney Channels Worldwide, which include Disney XD, Disney Junior, Disney Cinemagic, Hungama and Radio Disney brands. In addition, her responsibilities extended into the companys equity interest in A+E Networks, Fusion and Hulu. Bob Iger, CEO and Disney chairmen, praised Sweeney for her work with the company. Over the years, she grew our Disney Channel business into a global powerhouse and the main brand driver of our company around the world, built ABC Family into a top cable network here in the U.S., made ABC a strong, successful content creation engine, and has been a great partner in leading our industry into the digital age, he said. Sweeney will end her time at Disney when her contract expires in January 2015. -30-
