Name: Jennifer Dixon Subject/Grade: Math/ 4th Objective: Students will be able to estimate and measure length using

customary units. Standard: 4.MD. 1 Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two- column table. Assessment: During: teacher will informally assess student measurements. Post: Teacher will assess assignment at the end of lesson. Materials: Ruler, textbook, handout, paper clip, desk, book, etc. Procedures: Students will begin by using the textbook to look up vocabulary words on a handout. Teacher and students will go over/discuss the words and write correct definitions. Teacher will mark the 1/2 , 1/4, and 3/4 line on a ruler. Students will also mark these lines on their handout. Students will use a ruler to measure items to the nearest half and forth and record in chart on handout. Teacher will call on students to give answers for the measurements. Students will complete independent work on page 671 with elbow partners. Teacher will go over responses with students. Teacher will discuss which way of measuring provides the most accurate measurements. Students will complete assignment independently, and then check answers with a partner. Teacher will go over the answers with students. Teacher and students will discuss what they have learned in the lesson.
