SUNY CORTLAND MOTOR DEVELOPMENT LAB Fall 2013 Dr.

. Madden Lab Two Anthony Accetturi Name: ______________________________________ Lab Day: Wednesday Date: 2/26/14

Todays lab will allow you to observe and assess the skill of catching. Keep space and safety issues in mind as you have the children perform the lab activities. Schedule: We a. Task one - reflection b. Task two - Catching assessment (include catching instruction and associated games after the assessment is completed).

TASK ONE REFLECTION After observing and working with the students from Smith/Homer Elementary, can you briefly describe, an effective strategy to: a. get the childrens attention In order to get the childrens attention we have to be more firm with the children when they get into the gym and not let them run around and play without any instruction because once we lose their attention it is very hard to get it back. We should only have the equipment needed for the particular activity out and not extra equipment in order to keep the children on task and focused.

b. keep the childrens attention In order to keep the childrens attention our group has to be more organized in switching from one activity from another and not let the children dictate what we play or for how long we play. We have to choose games that the children enjoy playing and will still learn from. We should keep the options for the children down so that they do not have so many choices and stick with the sports that the kids enjoy playing.

c. organize activities for maximum participation In order to organize activities for maximum participation we have to choose games that the students enjoy playing like basketball, kickball and soccer. These games seemed to keep their interest longer and they have more fun playing then games like tag. If we can make the games interesting and still incorporate learning and skill progressions in there then the children will enjoy participating in games and learning the skills that we have put out there for them.
