Materials / Technology: 100s grid, More or Less by: Stuart J Murphy, counters
Modifications / Accommodations: lower students will be paired with a more knowledge student.


Do Now (3-5 minutes)
Large group at the rug

TTW read More or Less, by Stuart Murphy
During the story TTW chart the guesses that students give and identify the numerals on a 100s grid.


Opening (3-5 minutes)
On the rug
TTW lead a discussion about how the children guessed the principals age. TTW say, We are going to try to guess our principals age Students will
TPS and discuss what numeral they think is closest to the principals age.
Students will turn back to the teacher and each TPS group will share their estimate.
TTW tell students if their numeral is more or less than the correct numeral.
Students will return to their TPS for one more guess based on their clue.
Students will turn back, share their numeral for the last time. TTW will reveal the correct numeral.










Middle (IWY)

Introduce the game More or Less
TTW model the game with a student.


I do (board=paper):
Player 1 will write a number on a sticky note and
cover it with their hand so their partner can not
see the number
Player 2 will then try to guess the covered
number as Player 1 guides them to an answer by
say more or less than.
Every number that is guessed is then covered on
the 100s chart with a counter. (or filled in with a
pencil)
Once the number is revealed or correctly guessed
the players will switch roles.

The teacher and student will play two rounds of the game while students
observe

TSW go to their tables to play More or Less at a
level 1
