What is Aparthied?
How did it evolve?

During the 1970’s and 80’s Aparthied was reinvented- a result of increasing
internal and international pressures, and worsening economic difficulties
Why did it evolve?

It was not that bad until it was reinvented in the 1970-80’s


Who was involved?

Mostly the African citizens, it was mostly supported by the Afrikaans newspaper
and Afrikaner cultural movements such as the Afrikaner Broederbond.

Is it still around?

No, in February 1990 president FW de Klerk announced Nelson Mandelas release


and began the slowing down of the Aparthied system.

Alan Paton was born on January 11, 1903.

He was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

He attended Maritzburg College.

Alan Paton was married to a lady named Francis Lusted.

How did he become famous
Alan Paton became by first starting to write books and
novels like “cry, the beloved country”.
He believe that just like in his book he could have a
chance to change the lives of young blacks of the Xhosa
ethnic group. That is mostly why he evolved.

Alan Paton wrote this novel because during the time
when he was writing this novel, things were going on in
Africa with the kids and he wanted to help them. And
that is what his story was about.
Alan Paton’s influence on “Cry,
the beloved Country.”
Yes is did! His whole life influenced the outcome of this
novel. The novel is about Africa and some one who goes
to help then..

Through out his life He realized he wanted to help the


kids in Africa. And then wrote this book, “Cry, the
beloved country.” basically about what he did, and
wanted to do.

This novel, “cry the beloved country” was taken place
in Africa. It is set in the rural village of Ndotsheni, home
of Stephen Kumaio
The setting was in a village in Africa. It was very rural
area. Rural area mean that it is more of a countryside
area. So there was probably a lot of land.

It might be important because it helps the reader


understand the book. And the more they know before
they read it, the more likely it will be that they will
know what the novel is talking about.
