4-5 Displaying Data

By: yup me again!!!

Displaying data
• Bar Graph: good for
displaying data that can be
grouped into categories.
• Frequency table: if data is
given to you as a list, it helps
to organize it in a frequency
table
Example
• The following is a report of a randomly chosen
group of 20 KMS boys of how often they picked
boogies a day.
• 18, 17, 16, 16, 17, 16, 16, 16, 19, 16, 16, 17, 16,
17, 18, 16, 18, 16, 19, 16
• First organize into a frequency table

Displaying data
• Histogram: a type of bar graph where the
bars represent intervals in which the data
are grouped
• George surveyed 15 people to find out
how many pages were in the last book
they read.
• 368, 157, 27, 187, 240, 636, 98, 114, 64,
212, 302, 144, 76, 195, 200

Line graph
• A line graph is used to show trends or to make
estimates for values between data points.
• Make a line graph of the given data to estimate
the number of polio cases in 1993.
