Golf Committee

April 24, 2015

Discussion surrounding the greens
The soil temperature remains 40 degrees and lower. We need temperatures to elevate to
about 50 degree to successfully grow grass.
What are we going to do about? Starting Friday, April 25 we will verticut and monitor
growth. We have 6 greens we will need to stay off and while we grow. The greens that will be
impacted are (5, 9, 12, PPG, 18, 14). We need five days in row where we have optimal weather
conditions.

They will be closed tomorrow morning? Yes.
A questions was asked about the sand, and why we do it. The sand is a normal process as
following seasons. The sand is used to keep frost off the greens.

A committee member asked if we could close the 12 fairway and over seed the fairway. This
would mean closing it down all together.
The real questions is how do we get people around the gold course? A plan needs to be
formulated. A lay out should be worked on by the Pro Shop.
We need to consider the cancelation of tournaments?
We discussed waiting to see what the USGA agronomist. We will wait for a verbal assessment
on Monday and Dennis will a report out what he says.
If money was no option could you have prevented this? No
To maintain the course on a daily basis we could use more resource. This was not a money
issue. We went to walk mowing tees and approaches, we have light weight equipment. The
costs of goods have raised, and labor costs have increased.
If we want to restore the course to four years ago what do we have to do? There has been a
steady decline in the last year the conditions of the course.

Member/Member
We have had recent complaints about the format and the confusion nature of the format. We
are looking to make the whole format cleaner and crisper. We are looking for more inclusive
completion that does not violate the rules of USGA. Jimmy Barbari quit two years ago due to
the Member/Member, individuals got knocked out regardless of the time of sign up. Instead
the highest handicap was knocked out. The Pro Shop altered the format of play.
Last year we had different flights playing different formats. The ladies last year played overall
versus match play. The three whole play off also brings confusion to the overall
tournament. The goal is to improve the format and enhance the play for members.

Tony Fusco asked if there would be any further confusion about keeping score in this
format? You play both days handicapped, you keep your points total and go from there. The
pro shop will provide handouts for the pairings dinner to inform the tournament members
about the changes. The overall opinion of the committee was the format changes are
positive. A discussion came up about a women and men's member/member champion. There
has not been any questions about it, we just discussed it.

The golf committee will be looking at moving around the best ball, the cutting length in the fall
could be changed. We are looking for membership dates to accommodate the tournaments
and to reschedule. We need a communication plan for members and for outside
tournaments. No one should receive a call without a reschedule date. John Wilber will be
moving the George Douglas.
A question came up about crop damage insurance.
