List your goals and expectations for your participation in the Career Mentor Scheme
1. Help me support during critical stages of my academic and career development.
2. Help me navigating my career through advice.
3. Help me lay a strong professional network in the Industry.

Objective Setting:
List your three main objectives for your participation in for the Career Mentor Scheme
1. Build my professional network as I transition from University to work (average two new contacts a
month).
2. Improve both my written and verbal communication skills to a professional level by asking my
mentor to critique some of my assignments and undertaking a practical placement in second
semester July-Nov 2014.

3. Increase my awareness of a real organisational setting by familiarising myself with my mentors
workplace both through questioning my mentor and a site visit in the mid-year break.

As part of your mentoring relationship there are many possible difficulties that you may experience
throughout the year. Please complete the two exercises below from your own point of view.
What problems do you think you might encounter while participating in the Scheme?
1. A feeling of unsure about how much to ask of ones mentor, I feel I might be asking too
much or becoming a burden to my mentor.
2. The mentor not working in a related field of my career plan related to my particular choice
of industry.
3. The mentor not empathizing with mentee situation.
List some strategies you might use to combat these problems.
1. Provide guidelines or a structure on topics to discuss, templates for meeting or
discussions.
2. A number of visits, regular meetings between the mentor and the mentee would
solve the above mentioned problems.
3. It will be beneficial and helpful to assign the mentor whose field is more closely
related to the mentee.
