Assignment 1 Biology

1. TROPHIC LEVELS: each of several hierarchical levels in an ecosystem, comprising
organisms that share the same function in the food chain and the same nutritional
relationship to the primary sources of energy.
2. FIRST TROPHIC LEVEL: any class of organisms that occupy the same position in a
food chain, ... The first and lowest level contains the producers, green plants.
3. AUTOROPHS: an organism that is able to form nutritional organic substances from
simple inorganic substances such as carbon dioxide.
4. SECOND TROPHIC LEVEL: its represented by primary consumers, this means
herbivores and omnivores
5. PRIMARY CONSUMERS: A herbivore is an animal anatomically and physiologically
adapted to plant material, for example foliage, as the main component of its diet.
These animals have an all plant diet and have characteristics that are special for
obtaining plant material.
6. HERBIVORES: an animal that feeds on plants.
7. OMNIVORES: an animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin.
8. CARNIVORES: an animal that feeds on flesh.
9. PREDATORS: an animal that naturally preys on others.
10. SCAVENGERS: an animal that feeds on carrion, dead plant material, or refuse.
11. DECOMPOSERS: an organism, especially a soil bacterium, fungus, or invertebrate,
that decomposes organic material.
