After We Read: Comprehension Questions

1. Why cant Jonas talk to Benjamin about his accomplishments on Rehabilitation?
In the Community, there is a rule against bragging. Jonas complimenting Benjamin would force
Benjamin to break this rule by talking about his accomplishments.

2. Why doesnt Jonas have the faintest idea what Assignment he will be given?
Jonas believes that he has not shown enough of an interest in any specific area of work. He has
volunteered at a variety of different places and hasnt found one type of work that really fits
him.

3. What is the Communitys rule about Nakedness?
One cannot look at anothers nakedness. The only exception to this rule is people in the House
of the Old and newchildren, who need to be bathed and therefore, cant avoid nakedness.

4. How do the Old celebrate someones release?
They have a party and talk about the persons life, giving speeches about what that individual
accomplished. It is a happy time and considered a celebration of a life well lived.

5. What actually happens to someone when they are released? Do we know?
We do not know exactly what happens only the Committee knows. However, we do know that
the Old walk through a release door, and that they are typically smiling and happy when their
time comes.
