Strategy # 15

Non-linguistic
Manipulatives
Basics:
Time Allotted 5-20 minutes depending on the use of the manipulatives
Room Arrangement Normal arrangement
Materials Manipulative items
Process Directions:
1. Identify the task that students will complete that involves making using a physical model.
2. Identify hands-on materials (manipulatives) that will assist students in completing the
identified task.
3. Present students with the task they are to complete.
4. Supply the students with manipulatives.
5. Instruct as students work on task.
6. Allow students to present their completed task,
7. Discuss results.
When:
During/after instruction
Students are lacking energy.
Visual or Kinesthetic learners in the class
Students need motivation and/or lack interest
Example:
When learning about perimeter and area, I can provide students with different size boxes
in which they are to manipulate to fit a given area and perimeter.
