Expository Advance Organizers Basics: Time Allotted No time limit: used throughout course Room Arrangement Normal desk arrangement Materials Handout Process Directions: 1. Teacher creates a document with useful items for the students to reference throughout a lesson/unit/course. 2. Teacher distributes the handout to the class 3. Teacher explains to students that the handout will be very helpful throughout the lesson/unit/course and that the students should keep it somewhere safe and easy to access. When: Introducing new material Example: The teacher can give the class an expository organizer that lists all of the trigonometry identities and formulas at the beginning of a trigonometry course. This organizer would be a helpful reference for the students for the rest of the school year since those formulae are difficult to memorize. Source: Stone, C. (1983).
