Working conditions in paper and printing manufacturing plants have become less hazardous as
the industry has become more automated. Companies now use fewer chemicals and solutions
resulting in fewer equipment-related accidents.
A printing machine operator is a nontraditional occupation for women. In 2007, 17.2 percent of
the people employed in this occupation were women.
