Abstract
Backgrounds: Burn is a tissue damage that cause capillary ability lost so liquid will be
out from vascular system. It will cause filtrate accumulation, wide edema, decreasing blood
pressure drastically that lead to the death. Loss of skin defense caused by burns can be infection
and it will take a long time to heal burn. Purpose: this study aimed to know the effectiveness of
giving Zea mays extract to burn healing time on white wistars (Rattus norvegicus). Methode: it
was true experimental study in vivo with 30 white male wistars (Rattus norvegicus), aged 3
month and weights is 180- 270 grams. Genetic factors used rats with one species, Sprague
Dawley. Samples were taken by randomized. Meal and coops of rats were controlled.
Afterwards, data analiyzing used Kruskal- wellis. Result and Discussion: Zea mays extract can
enhance wound healing process in all phases. It was proved by significant value p= 0.0031. Zea
mays extract 10% group had the quickest time in wound healing process with significant value
p= 0.010. The role of Zea mays extract in inflammation phase was to enhance platelet
sedimentation process to fibrin, increased amount of antibody production as well. Saponin as
anti-bacterial inside Zea mays extract was able to kill infectious microbe in proliferations. It can
also stimulate increase of protease activity and endothelia cell migration till fibroblast in tissues.
Saponins also proven enhances granulation and extra cellular matrix synthetic during remodeling
phase.
Key word : burn, Zea mays, white wistars (Rattus norvegicus), time of burn healing
