Stacked BERA is a modification of standard BERA that displays activity from virtually all auditory nerve fibers, rather than just high frequency fibers, allowing it to detect any abnormality in the auditory nerve. It is more sensitive and specific than conventional BERA for identifying small acoustic neuromas, can be used for patients with implanted devices, and is less expensive and more comfortable than MRI.

Staked BERA is the modification of Standard ABR (BERA). Conventional BERA
uses responses from one region of 8th nerve (Portion of auditory nerve which has high frequency fiber only). Whereas in stacked BERA activity from virtually all auditory nerve fibers displayed. So it detects any abnormality in auditory nerve at its start.
Used in patient of vertigo and/ or hearing loss suspecting of Acoustic Neuroma. For 95% sensitivity (correctly identify 95 out of 100 small tumors of (1 cm size) Conventional BERA has 5% specificity, Stacked BERA has 83% Specificity. It is much less expensive and comfortable then MRI It can be used in patients with implanted devices.
