The Zapotecs lived in the mountains and valleys of Oaxaca,
Mexico, the civilization lived from 500 BC to 1500 AD (but
technically still exist today).
An example of their excellence is in an excavation, where
they found a palace of 6,500 square feet containing 20 rooms
and 3 outdoor patios. This exceeded all expectations.
The civilizations collapse is unclear.
Influence on the Mayans
The Zapotecs made a big impact on the Mayan culture. They influenced the
Mayans with culture, writing, math, astronomy, and the development of a
calendar. All of these aspects Maya refined to make it better.
