The hostage crisis that seemed to overwhelm
the Carter presidency involved a mob seizing
Americans in the U.S. embassy in Iran.
President Nixons efforts to ease Cold War
tensions were called Detente.
The Taliban controlled Afghanistan when the
U.S invaded in October in 2001.
Gerald R. Ford pardoned Richard Nixon for his
role in Watergate.
As a result of the Soviet invasion of
Afghanistan, President Carter boycotted the
Moscow Olympics, blocked food shipments to
the Soviets and began supplying the Taliban
rebels with U.S. weapons.
