Date: Fall 2013 Artifact Description: This artifact is my final evaluation for my early childhood student teaching placement at UW-Platteville. I was placed in the two-year old room of the UW- Platteville Childrens Center. My cooperating teacher was Kayla Schubert and my University supervisor was Dr. Peggy Marciniec. I was present on Tuesdays-Thursdays from 8-11:30am from September 3 rd until October 24 th . ALIGNMENT - Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment: This experience best aligns with standard one of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and Licensure Standards which states: The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students. The experience aligns best with standard one because throughout my placement I had opportunities to design and implement lessons (including one unit) for the children. I was able to effectively relate my disciplinary knowledge through multiple subject areas to the students. During my placement I engaged students through a dinosaur unit using songs, transitions, art activities, and center-based items that were developmentally appropriate. I used connections and enthusiasm to effectively know my students and develop a rapport to suit the attention spans of my students. UW- Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment: This artifact best aligns with KSD 1.a of the UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, and Disposition statements which states: The candidate displays extensive content knowledge of his/her subject areas and demonstrates a continuing search for new content knowledge, resources, and best instructional practices, while understanding student diversity and student misconceptions and misunderstandings as key to the teaching process . This experience aligns best with this standard because during this placement I built a continual rapport with students during a shortened time period. I was able to connect with an age group (2 years old) that is generally in their first institution outside of home. I had to do so quickly to develop lesson plans that would best suit the children. Secondary Alignment: KSD 4.f: Showing Professionalism KSD 4.c: Communicating with Families
REFLECTION- What I learned about teaching/learning: Through this experience I learned the importance of developing a continual rapport with your students each and every day. Its important for students to know youre rooting for them. They respond better to your instructional techniques when this occurs. What I learned about myself as a prospective educator: As a prospective educator, I learned I getting to know new students is the most enjoyable part of teaching as well as one of the most important. Its critical to know children are the future and to scaffold their learning on a consistent basis.
