As the delivery of health care continues to change, our clinic has been faced with new
challenges. It is with mixed feelings that we are notifying you of the closure of the Mercy
Behavioral Health Clinic. All clinic services at Mercy Behavioral Health Clinic will end
August 29, 2014. Drs. Sharon Koele, Shaad Swim, Waynella Runcie, ARNP, and Jenn
Norton, ARNP, will no longer be available to handle questions regarding medication after that
date and all scheduled appointments after August 29, 2014 will be cancelled.

In order to ensure your health and well-being are not compromised as a result of this clinic
closure, we are asking you to begin making decisions regarding the transition of your care now.
Enclosed you will find a listing of mental health services available in the Des Moines metro area.
If you have any questions regarding your transition to a new provider, please contact the clinic at
(515) 271-6300 and our staff will be happy to assist you.

Although the Mercy Behavioral Health Clinic is closing, other services at Mercy will not be
impacted by this change. The Mercy Pediatric Neurology and Psychiatry Center will remain
open and providers will continue to see children and adolescents at their office, located at 411
Laurel St., Ste. 3310, in Des Moines. The outpatient intensive adult services, also known as the
Partial Hospitalization Program and Mercy First Step Program, will continue uninterrupted at the
Mercy Franklin Center, located at 1818 48
th
St. in Des Moines.

In addition, emergency mental health assessments will continue to be available 24 hours a day,
seven days a week at the Mercy Help Center, which recently relocated to the west entrance at
Mercy Medical Centers main campus, 1111 6
th
Ave. in Des Moines. Assessments are also
available through the Mercy emergency departments at both Mercy Medical Center Des
Moines and Mercy Medical Center West Lakes.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing us to participate in your mental
health care and thank you for the trust you have put in us over the years. It has been our pleasure
to be of assistance to you and we wish you the best in the future.
