LANGUAGE ARTS

Reading: This week students will be reading
both online and physical books. Mondays reading
is on RAZ KIDS and Wednesdays reading is the
guided reader sent home.
Phonics: This week we will be focusing on soft g
sound. Word examples of this would be giraffe,
page or stage.
Spelling: Words their Way, our individualized
spelling program, is suited to your childs needs in
spelling and will focus on either initial/final
sounds, short vowels, long vowels, digraphs, other
vowels, blends or inflected endings. Spelling test
on Thursday!

Writing and Grammar: This week will be
creatively writing to music. Students will
concentrate on creatively writing what comes to
mind with certain types of music. Students will
then review and edit their writing to make sure
they have complete sentences that use correct
subject verb agreement, describing words and
punctuation. Each piece of writing will be peer
edited after each student has reviewed and edited
their own writing.

INQUIRING ABOUT LIGHT AND SOUND

This is our first week in the Unit of Inquiry on Light and
sound. We will be exploring how light and sound are used
in the world around us. This week we start to look at natural
vs. man made light and sound.

Ideas to help support your child and extend their
understanding for light and sound:
Put glow in the dark stars in their room.
Watch a commercial with no sound and have your
child explain what it is about.
Create a touch and feel box and have your child
describe only by feeling an object and then look at
it.

MATH
This week, we will review fractions and graphing. Students
will be learning how to cut shapes and make works of art in
quarters, halves, thirds and eighths. We will also be
generating graphs through survey data. Students will review
place value on Thursday and do some questions in
preparation for the MAPs tests that start next week.

www.everydaymathonline.com is a great resource of
games and support to enhance your childs math skills.
Please make sure to review your childs
understanding of their basic addition and subtraction facts.

Congratulations! This weeks Weekly
Dojo winner is Emily for being
Caring and cooperative by helping
others with their stop motion
animations.
