Call for papers

The fifth international conference of the International Network for the History of Hospitals is
inspired by the success of our meetings in Norwich, Verona, Montreal and London. As in
the past, our aim is to address new issues and themes in the history of hospitals within a
wider social context. Indeed, all sessions will examine the impact of hospitals upon the na-
ture and role of different communities and the ways in which hospitals were affected by the
various communities they served. Given the location of the conference, one of the under-
lying themes will be hospitals in the Mediterranean. However, since we also wish to encour-
age a broad comparative approach, we positively welcome proposals for papers on any
period or place dealing with any of the following four key themes:

(1) Regions: Politics and Identity

(2) The Local Economy and Employment
(3) Isolation and Disease
(4) War: Military and Naval Hospitals

All papers will be delivered in English and be no more than 30 minutes in length. We would
particularly welcome applications from postgraduate students and new researchers for
whom it is hoped a subsidy will be available.

Abstracts
Please email an abstract of approximately 250 words, together with a brief CV of not more
250 words, to Dr. Teresa Huguet Termes of CSIC-IMF (thuguet@bicat.csic.es).

Deadline: 15 October 2007 at the latest.
