1. Be sure the water is connected and
turned on. Connect (a) the refrigerator to
(b) a household water supply through (c)
an approved water supply line. (Note: All
Whirlpool-built side-by-side and some
top freezer refrigerators with in-the-grille
filters now include a coil of gray tubing
taped to the rear of the product.) If no
water supply is available, contact an
authorized plumbing technician.
Appliance Service Technicians are not
authorized to install water lines in many
areas due to plumbing codes.
Note: It is recommended not to use a
self piercing saddle valve because the
tapped hole often becomes clogged. Use
a 1/4 saddle valve that requires a drilled
hole.

2. When the refrigerator is being used for
the first time you have to hold the water
dispensing lever in for about 3 or 4
minutes to allow the reservoir to fill
before any water will dispense.

3. Flush the water system by dispensing
and discarding 2 to 3 gallons (8 to 12 L)
of water. This will clean the system and
purge the air out of the system. Air in the
lines can cause water to drip out of the
dispenser. High household water pressure
may increase tendency for dispenser to
drip.


4. Check for adequate water pressure.
You should be able to dispense about 3 -6
ounces in about 5 seconds.

5. If the refrigerator does not have a
dispenser, check the water pressure using
the water supply line if feasible. The
1/4 water supply line should dispense at
least 9 ounces of water in 5 seconds. If
not, then water pressure is low.

6. If water pressure is low, check the
following:
Kinked tubes
A clogged or partially closed
saddle valve
Reverse Osmosis Water filters
Water filter in your refrigerator
may need to be replaced

WHEN SHOULD THE
FILTER BE CHANGED?
The filter should be changed when the filter status light/indicator alerts a filter change
is needed. Consult the Use & Care Guide for instructions on and location of your
particular filter status light/indicator.
If a filter status light/indicator is not present, the filter should be changed as
recommended in the Use & Care Guide. Typically the recommended duration of a filter
is 6 to 9 months, depending on your usage.
If the water flow to the dispenser or ice maker decreases noticeably before 6 months
have passed, replace the water filter cartridge more often.
The filter may be hard to remove due to internal seals that have expanded during use. In
such cases try removing the grille first by pulling it off, and also open the door(s) for
easier access. For Style 1 filters, try to remove the filter by turning it 90 degrees
counterclockwise. For Style 2, push the button to release, and pull the filter out. (Note:
If the Tech sheet (folded paper) has fallen out of the grille, be sure to replace it.)

LIGHT SHOULD COME ON WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED.
SET THE REFRIGERATOR AND FREEZER TEMPERATURE CONTROLS
TO MID SETTINGS.
WAS THE UNIT WORKING? 3
THE REFRIGERATOR MAY BE IN A DEFROST MODE. THE
REFRIGERATOR WILL NORMALLY GO INTO DEFROST ONCE OR
TWICE A DAY TO CLEAR FROST BUILD-UP ON THE COOLING COILS.
MAKE SURE REFRIGERATOR IS PLUGGED INTO A 3-PRONG GROUNDED OUTLET.
CHECK OUTLET. DOES ANYTHING WORK USING THAT OUTLET?
CIRCUIT BREAKER TRIPPED? RESET BREAKER OR REPLACE FUSE.
IF PROBLEM IS RESOLVED, ALLOW 24 HOURS FOR THE REFRIGERATOR TO COOL
COMPLETELY BEFORE ADJUSTING CONTROLS FROM MID SETTING.

IF THE DOOR IS NOT CLOSED, EXCESS MOISTURE CAN ENTER THE
REFRIGERATOR. ENSURE DOORS ARE CLOSING COMPLETELY. IS
SOMETHING BLOCKING THE DOOR(S) FROM CLOSING. FOOD
ITEMS? ICE BUCKET? CRISPER? SHELVES? ETC.
IF THE DOOR DOES NOT SEAL CORRECTLY, EXCESS MOISTURE
CAN ENTER THE REFRIGERATOR. IF THE GASKET IS NOT
SEALING CORRECTLY, SCHEDULE A SERVICE CALL FOR REPAIR.
IS THE BACK PANEL IN PLACE? 3
ENSURE THE BACK PANEL IS ATTACHED AS SHOWN IN THE
ILLUSTRATION BELOW. THE BACK PANEL HELPS ASSURE AIR IS
BLOWN OVER THE DRAIN PAN TO ASSIST IN THE EVAPORATION
PROCESS. WITHOUT THE BACK PANEL, THE EVAPORATION OF
THE WATER IN THE DRAIN PAN WILL TAKE LONGER.
IT IS NORMAL FOR WATER TO BE IN THE DRAIN PAN BEHIND THE BASE GRILLE. THIS WATER COLLECTS
DURING THE DEFROST CYCLE, AND WILL EVAPORATE OVER TIME. WHEN IT IS HUMID, EXPECT THAT
THE WATER IN THE DEFROST PAN WILL TAKE LONGER TO EVAPORATE.

AN ANGLE). TO VIEW THE DRAIN PAN, REMOVE THE BASE GRILLE.
SIDE-BY-SIDE MODELS: IF AN IN-THE-GRILLE
FILTER IS PRESENT, THE DRAIN PAN MAY NOT BE
REMOVABLE FROM THE FRONT OF THE PRODUCT.
