ZEALANDIA'S BIRTH.

The wild waves sang her cradle-song,

And the wild winds rocked her to sleep,
And the wings of angels winnowed the air,
And the skies were blue and the sun shone fair
High over her mountain steep.
The forest voices were hushed and low,
And the mountain spirits were dumb,
And the broad sun lingered lovingly
Where the queen in her infant slumber lay
The queen of the days to come.
They knew that the scepter was hers to hold
!ew worlds of men to sway,
!ot hers the trump and the battle-drum,
"ut the peace and brotherhood to come
#n earth$s supremest day.
The wild waves tossed about her in foam,
And the wild winds rocked her to sleep,
And the angels sang of the days to be,
And the spirits of ocean on bended knee
Hailed her the queen of the deep.
