SLANT Spelling List Week 17

Week of May 12th

Stage 2 Unit 5 Focus on syllable division, consonant blends, sticky
sounds and suffixes
Vowels: a (apple), i (igloo), o (octopus), u (umbrella), e (echo)
Consonants: b, c, d, f, g (goat), h, j (jump), k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, y, z
Digraphs: sh, th, ch, wh
Spelling Concept: Consonant Cluster (str) similar to a consonant blend, but
has 3 consonants right next to each other. Each consonant keeps its own
sound.

Students will be writing sentences with words that follow our previous
spelling rules and patterns for the test following the above word structure.
This will give students practice with encoding (spelling). Each SLANT lesson
includes a dictation-spelling portion using the word structure provided above.
This will reinforce their decoding instruction for the SLANT reading
program. We are working to apply spelling rules rather than memorize
words.

Examples of possible spelling word structures are below:

1. scrap
2. squid
3. splint
4. script
5. struck
6. scram
7. stranded
8. stressing
9. sprig
10. spring
