It has been really great having so many of you coming to meet with your child/rens teacher to discuss and set some goals for the rest of the year. We are very pleased that so many families come for these conferences, which help build the home-school partnership, and can add immeasurably to the progress of each child.
Cross Country: Children have begun training for the school Cross Country which, for new families to our school, is a marvellous whole-day event held on the Land Corp farm on Takou Bay Road, on June 10 th . We take the whole school there by bus, which costs the school around $1300. This transport is a real cost to the school, and has been paid by the PTA in recent years. We dont charge because it is a compulsory event. However, we would like to try and keep as much PTA funding for other more tangible needs, if possible. Several businesses are making contributions, which is fantastic, and we are also offering all families the opportunity to give a voluntary donation to this cost. The real cost is around $4 per child. You might like to send this to school (or $5 or $10?) to help. Any contribution is appreciated. No lists will be kept or receipts given. A special container will be in the reception area for the next couple of weeks if you would like to help.
Classes are continuing with both Rippa Rugby and Hockey lessons this week, provided by Sport Northland instructors free of charge. These lessons give all our children a taste of different sports and are an integral part of our Physical Education programme.
A small group of our senior Eco-Warriors will be going with Ms Stone to Urupukapuka Island to join a number of other school groups in a tree planting work day. We wish them well and look forward to hearing back from them.
The Disco this Friday will be a lot of fun for all who attend. Thank you to the PTA for setting this all up, and to all who help on the night. Dont forget that our Year 1 and 2 children come from 5:30 6:30pm (with an adult please), and Year 3 6 students are from 7pm to 8:30pm. See you there!

Fuel for Schools is a school sponsorship programme that provides all schools throughout New Zealand with an innovative way to raise additional funds. Southfuels and Northfuels developed the Fuel for Schools programme as a way of supporting the rural communities where the majority of our customers reside. They set aside a portion of their marketing budget each year to absorb the costs of the donations so customers are not charged a premium on their fuel for participating in the programme. Its Northfuels way of saying thank you and putting something back into the community. If you are a Northfuels customer, you can participate by nominating Riverview School, who will receive 50 cents for every 100 Litres of bulk fuel that you have delivered.
