RNHA Celebrates Veterans Day

Lakeland, Florida – The Republican National Hispanic Assembly (RNHA) joins the nation in
celebrating and honoring Veterans. Formerly Armistice Day, Veterans Day is a holiday
observed annually in the United States in honor of all those, living and dead, who served with
the United States armed forces in wartime. Armistice Day, the forerunner of Veterans Day, was
proclaimed in 1919 to commemorate the termination of World War I. On the first anniversary of
the truce, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation eulogizing fallen Allied
soldiers and referring to November 11 as Armistice Day. It became a holiday in the U.S.,
France, Great Britain and Canada. As of 2007, 1.1 million veterans were Hispanic; 2.4 million
were black; 278,000 were Asian; 165,000 were American Indian or Alaska Native; 27,000 were
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander; and 18.7 million were non-Hispanic white.

RNHA National Chairman Alci Maldonado released the following statement, “I join the nation in
honoring those who have served and thank those who are currently serving in the military
across the globe protecting our God given freedoms. I have the utmost respect for these brave
men and woman who have fought or are fighting to defend them. God bless them and their
families for their sacrifice and God bless America.”
