Elizabethan era
The Elizabethan era was the epoch in English
history of Queen Elizabeth I's reign (1558
1603)
Characteristics
1.- Consolidation of Anglicanism and the
subordination of the church to the
monarchical power:
The Elizabethan Age is viewed so highly largely
because of the periods before and after. It was a brief
period of largely internal peace between the English
Reformation and the battles between Protestants
and Catholics and the battles between parlament
and the monarchy that engulfed the seventeenth
century
2.- Boost economic activity and naval
power
The one great rival was Spain, with which
England clashed both in Europe and the
Americas in skirmishes that exploded into
the Anglo-Spanish War of 15851604

The Italian Renaissance had come to an
end under the weight of foreign
domination of the peninsula
SHAKESPEARE
Shakespeare was born and brought up in
Stratford Upon Avon in 26 April 1564
He married Anne Hathaway, with
whom he had three children
He become an actor in London
and he playwrite beetwen 1589
and 1613
He then wrote mainly tragedies
until about 1608, including
Hamlet, King Lear, Othello and
Macbeth

Why?
We need two concepts:

1.- Julian calendar: from 42 b.C. to 1582 a.C.
Had an error of 11 minutes each year
The accumulated error in 1582 was 10
days
The last day of the Julian calendar was
October 5, 1582
2.- Gregorian calendar: from 1582 to present
The error is 1 day every 3300 years.
The last day of the Julian calendar was
October 4, 1582, but the first day of the
Gregorian calendar was October 15,
1582
Days between the two dates do not exist
Shakespeare died April, 23 1616
(Julian calendar) or May, 3 1616
(Gregorian calendar)

It was elected April 23 to coincide
with Cervantes
