IDENTIFIED VARIABLES

Experiment A : Different type of

wires

CONSTANT VARIABLES (CV) :
Number of turns of wire
Voltage of battery
Same type of iron nail

MANIPULATED VARIABLE :
Type of wire

RESPONDING VARIABLE :
Number of paper clip which is attracted by the iron nail

IDENTIFIED VARIABLES

Experiment B : Different turns of
wire

CONSTANT VARIABLES (CV) :
Voltage of battery
Same type of iron nail

MANIPULATED VARIABLE :
Number of turns of wire

RESPONDING VARIABLE :
Number of paper clip which is attracted by the iron nail

PROCEDURE:
1. The turns of copper wire must tight against the iron nail, and
the turns lie next to each other, with no empty space between
them.
2. When we reach the 25 number of turns, tape the copper wire
to the iron nail to hold the coil in place.
3. How neatly we coil the wire will affect the strength of your
electromagnet, so take the time to coil the wire neatly.
4. Cut the wire, leaving a 5-6 cm long "tail" for making the
connection to the crocodile clip.
5. Place the paper clips in a shallow container.
6. Use the alligator clip leads to connect the coil to the battery.
7. Use the electromagnet to pick up paper clips from the shallow
container.
8. Count how many paper clips the coil picked up.
9. Record the number in the table. Calculate the average
number of paper clips lifted by copper coil.
10. Repeat steps 1 to 10 two more times with soldering coil and
zink wire with 25 and 50 turns of wire.
