TESSELATE?
WHY DO SHAPES
TESSELLATE?
The reason that some shapes can
tessellate while others cannot is because
of their interior angles. The interior angles
must be an exact divisor of 360 degrees.

WHERE DO TESSELLATONS
OCCUR?
Maurits Escher
Maurits Cornelis Escher was born on June 17, 19898 in
Friesland. M.C. Escher was an exceptionally bright child but
when it came to secondary school he didnt do so well
except for art. Even though his drawing skills were
incredible especially for his age he wasnt able to pass his
final exam therefore never officially graduating from
secondary school. From then on his art work became better
with the support of old friends and he also took interest in
literature and started to write himself. When going through
a rough period of his life due to school and other problems
his drawings started to become more intricate especially
after a vacation to the Riviera and Italy. Fascinated with his
surroundings thats when he got to be more mathematical
when it came to his drawings. He was inspired with
complex designs and tessellations which tie into some of
his early works like the Metamorphis and Development
series. Many mathematicians were fascinated my Eschers
work and how most of his work was done around the
concepts of geometry, logic, space, and infinity. He died on
March 27, 1972, in the Netherlands with more than 2, 00
pieces of work in his name.
