Planetarium Internship

Dear Dr. Healy,
My name is Andres Gamiz I am a senior at Bioscience High School in Downtown Phoenix.
I was told about an internship possibility at the planetarium at MCC. My huge interest in
Astronomy and Computer sciences has really driven me to this internship opportunity. I have
volunteered at First Lego League Competitions that have been held at my school. As well as I
have participated in a program in conjunction with Arizona State University called ITEST where
we learned about and applied the Engineering Design Process to many different real world
situations. I am also active in clubs at my school such as Robotics and S.T.A.R.S. Club and am
Vice President of the S.T.A.R.S. Club for the past 2 years.
My ultimate goal is to go into the field of Astronomy and study Astrophysics. I am
applying to ASU and U of A and hope to get accepted into their respective Astronomy programs
where I can hopefully make connections in order to further my learning there as well as
hopefully work in the Planetarium there. I have always been interested in Astronomy since I
was a young child and wanted answers to the questions I had about the Stars, Planets and the
Universe as a whole. Having taken an Astronomy class during my sophomore year as well as
taking the Astronomy pathway at my high school I feel that I am more than ready to just hop in
and get started.

internship opportunity. I feel that my knowledge of computers and Astronomy make me a
perfect fit for this opportunity.
