This article gives an overview of President Obamas speech for the Democratic nomination in Charlotte. Though Obama addressed his shortcoming in his first term, he reminds his supporters that you didnt elect me to tell you what you wanted to hear. You elected me to tell you the truth. And the truth is, it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over decades. In this particular speech, Obama reiterated the feasibility of overcoming such a difficult economy. He also emphasized that his supporters must be patient in order for his policies and plan to take into effect. Last, the article gives Obamas remarks regarding to his opponent Romneys criticisms of Obamas failure to cut deficits and create jobs. In another article taken place in the Democratic National Convention, the BBC author analyses Michelle Obamas role to advocate for her husbands presidency. The First Ladys personal stories shed light to how the incumbent president understands the struggles in the middle class. The author drew contrasts of Michelle Obamas speech with Ann Romneys, observing that Obamas speech was more political and appealing to the middle class and female vote. Obama further stressed the presidents compassion by bring back the American Dream, saying Barack knows the American Dream because hes lived it and he wants everyone in this country to have that same opportunity, no matter who we are, or where were from, or what we look like, or who we love. The author gave an political analysis of the Democratic conventions strategies to gain votes by scaring voters about Mitt Romney and getting voters excited once again.
Elon hosts Pulitzer Center crisis-reporters Posted on September 29, 2012 by nyuan http://mediawrites2012.wordpress.com/2012/09/29/elon-hosts-pulitzer-center-crisis-reporters/ - respond
The event: Speakers from the Pulitzer Center shares intimate stories and passion on reporting abroad with fellow Elon students at Elons Whitley Auditorium. These journalists use multi-media elements to inform and share personal insights of stories they were covering. Despite the differences in Braccos drug war coverage in Mexico, Bakers coverage on the innovative schools on boats and Sawyers profound connection with Haiti earthquake survivor Cynthia, these journalists fundamentally overlapped one quality of journalism: spreading awareness while upholding a journalistic integrity. Glenn Baker: As a documentary film maker, Baker had something else in mind stepping foot onto Bangladesh. Drawing close to his personal connections with South Asia he decided to delve into ones innovation of having school and clinic facility on boats due to the year-long floodings in Bangladesh. Baker explains often times girls are not able to go to school for safety concerns and through these boat schools, many were granted to learn again despite the flooding seasons. Baker showed a sneak peak of his Easy Like Water documentary. His video tells a story embedded with hope and ambitions from the children who were able to resume their education through the means of these schools on boats. Baker Quote: She is our only daughter. We will endure any hardship in order to continue her education. (Girls mother in the documentary.) Dominic Bracco: Photojournalist Dominic Bracco II reports violence from Ciudad Jaurez of the drug cartel wars in Mexico.Though his primary focus was the life and death in the Northern Pass, his photojournalism highlighted loss of innocence and its impact on the local youth culture. As he clicks through the slideshow of his photos, he puts context to the death and the rawness in Jaurez. He then further reminds his audiences of the dilemma Americans face as citizens of the those affected due to Americas immigration policies. Bracco Quote: It was the ambition of cartels to take away any dignity. Kem Knapp Sawyer: Sawyer shares her own experience as well as the life of a young girl Cynthia after the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti in 2010. Two years after the event Sawyer revisited the city of Port-au-Prince and spoke of the Haitians resilience amidst toppled homes, fallen churches and abandoned buildings. Sawyer emphasized that though often times Haiti is portrayed as a victim in disasters, the emotional strength of Haitians is often kept in the dark. Sawyer Quote: Living in a camp was simply a fact of life. Finally: The three journalists who spoke about different themes involved in their project ultimately reminds the audience that through their reporting, those who struggle have their voices heard. Despite the cruel reality many subjects face, we see hope and determination from them. These journalists not only captivate the truth, stories are told in such a humble way that gives a simple greatness that never strayed away from its context .
See You Around by Amin Osman
Logline: Secretly schemed coincidences fuels a potential college romance ends in thrilling twist.
Sypnosis: The story sets on a modern-day college campus. Nicole (female lead), a college student briefly meets Max (male lead), a cyclist on a bike through an minor accident. Their encounter is marked by Nicoles chatters of her first impressions of Max, the stoner laughing obnoxiously at a stand-up comedy show in their freshmen year. Having not met Nicole before, Max apologizes for running her foot over. As Nicole returns to her home, Nicole fill her roommate Tess and her boyfriend, Steve in about the minor incident with Max. Nicole shows subtle interests towards Max in their conversation but Tess shrugs it off calling Max fucking creepy. Nicole and Max reflect two different personalities; Max being a laid-back, OUTGOING, and scruffy-looking guy and Nicole being a shy, conservative, socially awkward girl. Days following Nicoles meeting with Max, a series of unexplained coincidences between the two occurs. From the coffee shop, library to late night on college campus and the gym, Nicole seems to be initiating contact with Max by subtly getting his attention or gaze at him from afar. Max on the other hand remains friendly but is unaware of Nicoles admiration towards him.
As Nicole and Tess gets ready to go out, Nicole insinuates to Tess that Max has secretly been stalking her and is never out of sight. At the party, it is clear that it is a small get-together and that both Nicole and Tess do not know anyone there and just showed up uninvited. As Tess heads off to the bar, Nicole catches a glimpse of Max talking to a girl. Infuriated she aggressively marches at Maxs way and confronts the girl telling her hes not worth her time. Max, shocked and in dismay is then confronted by Nicole who accuses him of stalking her. Though Max is still clueless and confused of these accusations, he runs after an upset Nicole trying to make amends.
Suddenly, a huge masked guy rips and runs off with Nicoles purse. Max runs after the masked guy and is thrown in the ground and punched in the jaw as the masked guy ran away. Nicole becomes frantic yet is love-struck by Maxs heroic gesture. Nicole suggests that the two can hang out. Max seems content and offers to walk Nicole home but she quickly declines, as she wants some alone time. The two bid goodbyes.
Later that night, an appeased Nicole thanks Peter as the purse lies on the table. She then retires into her room and walks over to her laptop waiting for the homepage to load. She walks into her closet and as she pushes the hangers aside, the closet wall reveals a chilling collage of Max. The true story finally unfolds as Nicole exposes herself as the real psychopathic stalker who is obsessed with Max all along. Everything from the very first encounter was carefully schemed for Nicole to meet Max and provoke interaction between the two. The script ends with a loaded Facebook page of Max to portray Nicoles twisted stalker pleasure with Max. Evaluation/Comments: The script opens up with foreshadowing as Nicole unnaturally trips Max on a bike. Though the script seems slow paced and dull in the beginning, the suspense at the party scene confirms readers suspicions of Nicoles socially awkward yet psychotic ways. However the content of the script lacked the ability to really capture audiences.

Coming-together Rally resulted in Minor Accident By Ning Yuan
After a temporary student roadblock initiated by the visiting president of Compromise Coalition this morning, a Leon student was struck by an infuriated parent in vehicle. The Compromise Coalition President Atrial Armendariz, who had advocated for bipartisanship in the nation, emphasized that this symbolic march on a half-way street was our message to the people of Washington for people o come together. However, proving point had its shortcomings as 35-year-old Melinda Speedo sped past the roadblock hitting the Leon sophomore, Ralph Jumper. He was treated in the local Emergency Room and suffered nothing more than minor cuts and abrasions, said Armendariz. Speedo later apologized for the accident but reflected frustrations as a parent who relays from her home to the University on a daily basis. In a press release, Armendariz assured that Jumper was indeed ok and is set to be released around 4 to 5 p.m. When asked about the choice of the location of the march, Armendariz was enthusiastic about the impact it inflected but did admit he would reflect on the tact of coming together rally for cause in some other fashion in the future. Calling it the most important event of the year, Armedariz had arranged this rally a month prior in order to call upon change aginst the gridlock in Washington DC. He is set to continue his college tour to Davidson, Furman, and College of Charleston in the coming weeks.
