This document contains a 3 question dynamics test from Applied Science University. Question 1 asks the student to determine the angle at which a ball must be thrown from 65 feet away in order to strike a wall at the highest point possible. Question 2 asks the student to calculate the normal and frictional forces exerted on a 250kg snow-cart traveling up a hill. Question 3 asks the student to determine the force exerted on a 5kg can by a rotating rod lifting it up a circular ramp with 0.5 rad/s angular velocity when the can reaches an angle of 30 degrees.

Dynamics - First Test Test Date: Tuesday 24/11/2009 from 3:00 pm. 4:00 pm Dr. Iyad Muslih Student Name: Student No: Sec.No. Q. 1 (7 points):
The man stands a distance d = 65 ft from the wall and throws a ball at it with a speed v o = 60 ft/s. Determine the angle at which he should release the ball so that it strikes the wall at the highest point possible. What is this height? The room has a ceiling height h 2 = 20 ft and h 1 = 5 ft.
Q. 2 ( 7 points):
A 250 kg snow-cart with rider is traveling down the hill. When it is at point A, it is traveling at 8 m/s and increasing its speed at 3 m/s 2 .
Find: The resultant normal force and resultant frictional force exerted on the cart at point A.
Q. 3 ( 7 points):
A smooth can C, having a mass M = 5 Kg, is lifted from a feed at A to a ramp at B by a rotating rod. If the rod maintains a constant angular velocity of ' = 0.5 rad/s.
Determine the force which the rod exerts on the can at the instant
= 30 0 . Neglect the effects of friction in the calculation and the size of the can. The ramp from A to B is circular having a radius of b= 500 mm.
