QSL to attend CANEGROWERS meetings to answer grower questions
Queensland Sugar Limited (QSL) CEO Greg Beashel will speak at grower meetings in the Burdekin, Plane Creek and Proserpine regions this week at the invitation of CANEGROWERS.
The CANEGROWERS meetings are being held to discuss Wilmars proposal to exit the export sugar industrys collaborative approach through QSL and what this will mean for growers.
Mr Beashel said QSL had spent a lot of time recently talking with grower organisation representatives, millers and individual growers.
Our members are very concerned about Wilmars decision to exit the QSL system in three-years time. They have raised many questions regarding what this decision will mean for growers supplying cane to Wilmar, particularly around transparency and risk exposure, and the impact it will have on the greater Queensland sugar industry, Mr Beashel said.
We believe greater economies of scale and maximised value is achieved when Queenslands export sugar is kept together and moved through the QSL system.
Mr Beashel said he was pleased to be attending this weeks meetings at the invitation of CANEGROWERS.
These meetings provide the opportunity to address growers issues, answer grower questions and outline the benefits of the current industry-owned model and the options that are available under this model , Mr Beashel said.
QSL is a not-for-profit organisation that is owned by growers and millers for growers and millers. We operate solely to benefit our members and work to ensure the best returns can be achieved for the Queensland sugar industry.
The ramifications of Wilmars proposal will impact the entire industry and its important that our members understand the facts and all aspects of the situation. We will continue to work with growers and millers throughout this process.
Mr Beashel will also provide a market update and estimated pool returns for the 2013 and 2014 seasons at the grower information sessions.
