A hurricane is a large, extremely
powerful wind storm.
A hurricane begins when
a warm, wet mass of air
over the sea begins to
rise quickly .
In the United States and the
gulf of Mexico . They happen
in the summer .
It can blow things away
and it can cause floods.
In 1985, Hurricane Hugos storm surge
was 20 feet high . It washed away
houses and bridges. Winds gusted to
150 MPH. Cars flipped over . Boats
crashed ashore. Trees were flattened
into giant toothpicks.
1.Hurricane Hugo killed 504 people.
2. If winds reach 74 MPH a hurricane
is born.
3. In the Indian ocean Hurricane
storms are called tropical cyclones.
You can get food, water,
a flashlight, and a supply
kit. Go to a basement
and find a safe place to
put your animals .
Keeping a radio on is
important. Weather
reports tell people
where to go for safety
and when it is safe to
return to their homes.
Flashlights, radios, stocks of
fresh drinking water, canned
foods, and warm blankets .
