next few weeks. May 19-Visit to Staathof Farm in Hersey. Afternoon children all have their per- mission slips in. Morning chil- dren do not need permission slips, but do need to be ac- companied by an adult. Morning children are wel- come to meet us at the farm or follow the bus. Afternoon families are also welcome to follow the bus. May 26th-NO SCHOOL- MEMORIAL DAY May 27th-End of Year Cel- ebration Ice Cream Social With a fairly large number of students that may not choose to go to kindergarten due to new age requirements we have decided to do a celebra- tion instead of a graduation. On Tuesday, May 27th we will have an ice cream social on our playground. The chil- dren will have the opportuni- ty to make homemade ice cream. We invite morning families at 11:00 and after- noon families at about 11:30. Both families and children can mingle and visit as we reflect on our wonderful year and school family. At 12:00 noon we will go inside with the afternoon children for school. We are looking for afternoon parents who can volunteer to help with clean- up after we take the children in for school. We will have your childs re- port card and portfolio avail- able for you to take home. This will give you the time to ask any questions you may have as we still have two days of school left after the celebration. *We will not be walking to Kiddies Kastle due to the celebration May 29-LAST DAY OF SCHOOL On-Going Home Visits-As of this writing we have 12 out of 29 visits complete. If you are unable to make your visit please let us know asap
This month we have been reviewing letter and number recognition skills. We will also focus on counting and assessing large motor development. As we have met with some of you over the course of the home visits we have been so amazed at how much you all work on academ- ic skills with your children. That is absolutely what they will need as they enter kindergar- ten. Keep practicing letter, sound, and number recognition as well as counting and writing skills. Young children gain and loose skills as they grow and change. Without practice your child will forget some of the valuable skills they have worked so hard to learn. You will be receiving a series of summer packets specially designed to keep practicing age appropriate skills. There are also some really good ideas on Pinterest for those of you who enjoy finding ideas online. You can use outside time to write in sand and even count the players on baseball and softball teams. You can count all the way home from the ball field and see how high you can get. As always-thank you for sharing your child with us!
