Word formations are additions or alterations to base words in order to

form new, similar or representative meaning such as:



affixing (prefixes & suffixes)
compound words
abbreviations/clipping

AFFIX

We affix words by adding prefixes and suffixes to base words. Affixing
words changes their meaning and part of speech. Look at the example
of how the word below changes its part of speech with affixing.

friend (noun)
friendly (adjective)
unfriend (verb)
friendship (compound noun)
Prefixes

We change the meaning of a word by adding a set of letters before the
word. Look at how the following word changes by adding prefixes.
