The name Hippies comes from the word "hip" for cool Hippies took place from the 60's to the 70's Hippies wore flowing clothes, beads, rimless, and psychedelic colors Made themselves popular by taking drugs such as LSD and Marajuana Grew their hair out to show who they were and to make a statement Used their fame to spread their ideas in their music. They felt that they could only contribute to society through their music The hippies were famous for developing the genres of psychedelic and hard rock Many famous bands were supporters of the hippies Festivals were put together to get together and share their ideas Much of the population at the time was 30 and younger These young minds wanted to rebel against society and were very counter culture They opposed established institutions They chose lives of poverty as to not contribute to the mainstream Also chose their life style because they felt they couldn't contribute to the society in any other way Used their fame to spread the word of peace and anti- war They disliked war very much Used the recent acts of violence such as the Vietnam war to show other people that war was causing nothing but trouble Placed flowers in the soldiers guns to get them to stop fighting The other young people who opposed the hippies involved themselves in the government Most of the opposers were part of the YIP(Youth International Party) and were called Yippies Works Cited
