L06 System Reliability
Test Case Part 1
A pumping system pumps water from point A to point B. The time to
failure of all the valves and the pump can be represented by the
exponential distributions with failure rates that where obtained by
specific life tests. Calculate
1. the reliability function of the system
2. the failure rates
3. the probability that the system will survive another 10h, if it
already survived 10h.

Test Case Part 2
Valves life test
Ten valves are placed under life test which is terminated at t
0
= 850h.
Eight components before 850h have elapsed, but the components are
replaced when they fail.
Failure times obtained are:
183, 318, 412, 432, 553, 680, 689, 748
Pump life test
Ten pumps are placed under life test which is terminated when the 8
th
component failed at 850h. The components are not replaced when
they fail.
Failure times obtained are:
183, 318, 412, 432, 553, 680, 689, 748
