William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare is known as writer of Romeo
and Juliet, and his popular stories are Hamlet,
Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth. This four stories is
called Four Great Tragedies of Shakespeare.
Shakespeare produced most of his known work
between 1589 and 1613.

The tragedies
William Shakespeare wrote tragedies from the
beginning of his career.
His most admired tragedies were written in a seven-
year period between 1601 and 1608.
The tragedies include Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth
and King Lear, all of which are immediately
recognizable, regularly studied and frequently
performed.

Such great heroes as Macbeth, Othello, King Lear,
and Hamlet will always fail because their tragedy is
that while they are great men capable of great deeds,
they cannot withstand the inevitability of the
character flaw that will bring about their own
destruction. They are tragic heroes, doomed by the
perilous conflict within their own hearts.

Poetry
In 1593 and 1594, when the theatres were closed because of plague,
Shakespeare published two narrative poems, Venus and Adonis and
The Rape of Lucrece.
In 1599, two early drafts of sonnets 138 and 144 appeared in The
Passionate Pilgrim.
The Phoenix and the Turtle, printed in Robert Chester's 1601 Love's
Martyr.
A third narrative poem, A Lover's Complaint was printed in the first
edition of the Sonnets in 1609.
In 1609, Shakespeare published Sonnets. The Sonnets were the last
of Shakespeare's non dramatic works to be printed.
The Shakespeare's sonnets are a collection of 154 sonnets.



Shakespeares Sonnet
Shakespeares sonnets are written in a strict poetic
form that was very popular during his lifetime.
14 lines, a strict rhyme scheme, and written in iambic
pentameter.
Shakespeares sonnet are dealing with themes such
as the passage of time, love, beauty and mortality.
The Prologue to Romeo and Juliet is also a sonnet.

The identity of this person remains a mystery.

Mr. W. H, perhaps the young man or
not . We dont know exactly the truth.

'T.T. are taken to
refer to the publisher,
Thomas Thorpe. We dont know that it is
Shakespeare s words.
