Early Life and Teen Life
Born in Modesto, California on May 14, 1944
As a child, main interests consisted of television and
comic books.
Later on, his interests changed. He developed an early
passion for race car driving and dreamed of becoming
a professional race car driver. But then
Went to Modesto Junior College to study
cinematography and camera tricks. Afterwards, he
transferred to University of Southern California School
of Cinematic Arts.
He graduated in 1967 with bachelor of fine arts in film,
but later re-enrolled as a graduate student in film
production working as a teaching instructor.

Start of a Career
His first short film, THX-1138 4EB won first prize
at the 1967-1968 National Film festival. Met
Steven Spielberg Awarded a scholarship by
Warner Bros. to observe the making of Finians
Rainbow.
George Lucas co-founded American Zoetrope
with Francis Ford Coppola.
Despite the failure with THX-1138, Lucas
moved on and very carefully planned his next
movie, American Graffiti.
The beginning of Star Wars
With all the money he earned from
American Graffiti, Lucas was able to
create his own film production
company, Lucasfilm.
