An historical example of one women who stood up for her rights is Rosa Louise Parks. She has been called the "Mother of the Modern-Day Civil Rights Movement." In 1955, Rosa refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a city bus. Her action started a protest that was felt throughout the United States. Her quiet, courageous act which went against the law changed America and redirected the course of history. Antigone is an ancient Greek play but the themes that Sophocles raises are highly relevant to our society today.
