About Auschwitz- Birkenau
Auschwitz (all 3) was the
largest of all death camps
across Europe. It was divided
into 3 main areas Stammlager,
Birkenau, & Monowitz and
was established by the Nazi's
in the 1940s.
Birkenau had the largest total
prisoners.

Auschwitz-Birkenau
It had 4 large crematorium
buildings constructed
between Mar.-Jun. 1943.
They each had 3
components: Disrobing
area, a large gas chamber,
& crematorium ovens.
How they Killed
Zyklon B was introduced
into the camp for murder
They tested it in Auschwitz
I then was spread to the
other complexes
They also burned the
bodies in the
crematoriums .

Deportations
Trains were used as the
transportation
Most of the transportation
were of Jews
Between late April & Early
July 1944 approximately
1.1 million jews, 150,000
poles, 23,000 gypsies,
15,000 soviet prisoners, &
25,000 others were
deported to Auschwitz

He was the first
commander of Auschwitz
from May 1940-Nov. 1943
Was given life in prison for
