Name: Siobhan Goldman-Anthony Date: Thursday, April 17, 2014
Length of Large Group Time: 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Size of group: 14 Age of children: 3-5 years old
Activities/Purpose:
Activity #1
o First I will take them outside to collect such items as leaves, pine needles, grass, pine cones, sticks, flowers and other items they find outside. We will then come back to the classroom and glue all the items together to do a Group Nature Collage.
o I chose this activity because we can discuss the Earth and ways to help take care of it we place items on the collage. I know this activity will allow them to share the use of space and material, take turns placing items on the group nature collage and develop their language in conversation.
Activity #2
o Next, I will have them draw their own picture of what they think an earth looks like. Without any print outs of an earth, because of the fact we have been talking about earth day the whole week.
o I chose this activity because it helps their brain think back on all they have learned about earth day and it allows them to personally create their own image of an earth. They will also be able to have memory and knowledge in remembering to draw their own earth.
Siobhan Goldman-Anthony Activity #3
o Next, I will sing a song called, This Land Is Our Land. Which the tune of the song will be based off of the original song, This Land Is Your Land. The song is singed like this
We must take care of the world we live in. We must not waste what nature has given. We need clean air, soil, and water, too, This land was made for me and you!
Chorus: This land is our land; we must respect it. We must protect it, and not neglect it. If we take care of what we've been given This land will stay for you and me!
We breathe the air and we feel the sunlight, Our plants need water and soil to grow right. We need both plants and animals, too. This land was made for me and you!
Repeat Chorus
Pollution poisons our air and farmlands. It's not from nature, but from our own hands. The health of nature rests on what you do. This land was made for me and you!
Repeat Chorus
o I chose this activity because it will get them moving around and having fun together with each other. Also motivate them to take care of where they live.
Transition Activity
o Finally, I will end my circle time and transition the children by doing a clap, clap, and stomp routine to prepare them to wash Siobhan Goldman-Anthony their hands and get ready for lunchtime. I will add a chant that will include lunchtime, when they do the stomp I will say lunch time.
o I chose this transition activity because the children will know it's time to pay attention and get ready for lunchtime. And also when they hear lunchtime in the chant, it will get them more excited to get ready for lunchtime.
